Updata Infrastructure Helps Cheshire Fire and Rescue Deploy MPLS Network

November 19, 2012
By Rory Lidstone, TMCnet Contributing Writer

The many ways which people, businesses and organizations can connect today through the Internet have made collaboration across great distances quite feasible. As such, even public services like the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) have taken to implementing an MPLS networking system. Specifically, the CFRS has implemented a new public services network (PSN)-compliant WAN meant to aid collaboration across the country with its public sector partners.

Provided by Updata, a public sector network specialist, this voice and data network links all fire stations and offices throughout the U.K. which allows files to be transferred up to 60 times faster than the old CFRS network. Not only that, but the new network is built to PSN accredited standards, meaning that the CFRS can connect with other public sector stakeholders in the country and beyond, as well as take advantage of services offered through the government's Cloud Store program.

Furthermore, the multi protocol label switching (MPLS) network will continue to receive maintenance from Updata continually into the future.

"We place great emphasis on collaboration with our public sector partners and want to ensure that our network can support this going forward," said Tim Bevington, head of Planning, Performance and Communications at Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, in a statement.

In other MPLS news, TMCnet reported that Ipanema (News - Alert) Technologies, a provider of WAN optimization solutions, was recently selected to improve the Henkel hybrid network. Henkel is a manufacturer of laundry, homecare and adhesive technologies. Specifically, Ipanema used its WAN optimization solution to help manage the complexity of Henkel's growing user base.

Also recently, Gulf Electronic Tawasul Company, more commonly known as Tawasul Telecom, aimed to prove how essential an MLPS platform is within academic, governmental and private sectors in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by hosting the First Arab Internet Governance Forum. This event was organized by the Kuwait Society for Information Technology and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia.
