SingTel Deploys MPLS Technology in APAC with the Help of Cisco
Multi protocol label switching (MPLS) technologies are known for their low cost of ownership. Thus, MPLS-based solutions are increasing in popularity in enterprises across a wide range of industries.
Recently SingTel (News - Alert), a communications provider in Singapore, revealed it has become the first service provider in the Asia Pacific region to deploy multi protocol label switching-transport profile (MPLS-TP) technology.
The company deployed its MPLS-TP solution within its ConnectPlus E-Line service, enabling a highly flexible, resilient and cost-effective connectivity service that leverages a next-generation enterprise architecture which supports video and cloud services across the globe.
"With the implementation of these latest technologies in our network, customers' networks will be future-ready for the delivery of ICT services across multiple geographies,” said Goh Boon Huat, SingTel's vice president of Business Products, in a statement. “We can help our customers achieve greater business advantage by allowing them to deploy data-intensive applications such as video conferencing, multimedia, data analysis and business continuity planning."
The network uses the Cisco (News - Alert) MPLS Transport Profile (MPLS-TP) suite of carrier packet transport functions which are capable of delivering data bandwidths of up to 10 gigabits per second in order to support bandwidth-intensive applications with high service reliability. The network that unifies both packet and transport domains can also support current as well as new services in the near future. Additionally, the Cisco carrier packet transport offering is highlighted for its pay-as-you-grow architecture.
MPLS-TP will help SingTel serve its customers offering a greater degree of freedom in terms of network topology demands regardless of a customer’s location, traffic conditions and bandwidth requirements. The service simplifies service provisioning, enabling the company to respond faster to customers' business needs and fulfill stringent service level agreements.
“In deploying the Cisco Carrier Packet Transport solution, SingTel is able to simplify service fulfillment complexity and evolve the ConnectPlus suite of services into a new generation converged transport architecture ready for enabling future services," added Jeff White, vice president for Cisco's Service Provider Business in Asia Pacific, Japan and China, in a statement.
