Batelco Launches MPLS Services in Oman
Bahrain’s premier telecommunications provider Batelco recently collaborated with local telecom service provider Omantel, in order to introduce multi protocol label switching (MPLS) interconnectivity to the Omani market.
This strategic alliance with Omantel was an important step in enabling Batelco to power its one-stop-shop portfolio, revealed Batelco Enterprise Division General Manager Adel Daylami, in a statement.
Further, this agreement allows bi-lateral data IP services to be sold between Bahrain and Oman. It also enables an array of transit services to be powered to both firms' carrier partners, allowing them to extend corporate VPN solutions in their respective markets.
Both businesses have been able to strengthen their long term collaboration efforts through teaming up during International Telecoms Week, which was held in Chicago earlier this year.
"We are now in a position to extend rest of the world's connectivity for our international customers and partners to all GCC, regional countries through Batelco's Global IP VPN reliable, state-of-the-art network," Daylami further added.
Multi protocol label switching (MPLS) is known for its low cost of ownership, and is touted as being a data-carrying mechanism that belongs to the family of packet switched networks. It is better aligned with current and future technology needs.
Batelco's MPLS allows for simple any-to-any communications and has the ability to encompass distributed applications.
"We are delighted to announce the completion of this important project allowing our customers to have direct connectivity with their offices in Bahrain as well in other countries covered by Batelco's extensive reach," commented Omantel Capacity and Submarine Cables Senior Manager, Johannes Boersma.
